*Current and on-going. A private training center specializing in clicker-training various pets and ranch animals.
Working directly with the owners training horses, miniature horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, an alpaca, chickens and a hamster.
*I have trained a horse to look up and down on cue, a rabbit to hop from one spot to the other and run a maze, a cat to touch a target stick and "give five." I've also trained miniature horses to lie down, roll over, walk forward, back up and sit on a beanbag chair.
*Santa Barbara Zoo (Santa Barbara, California) Summer 2011
An AZA accredited zoological facility in Santa Barbara, California.
I volunteered at the zoo for 4 months and during this time I learned a lot about different husbandry techniques and how animals got trained, fed, and how to clean out cages.
I was able to extend my knowledge primarily with larger exotic land mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. I learned how to hand feed frogs and lizards. I was able to hand feed four giraffes while the keeper was bottle feeding the baby. I made enrichment items for the lions. I helped weigh the two lions as well as the Amur leopard. I also got to clean out the California condor exhibit, and to have something that big fly that close to you is something you will never forget. And I got to move Macaws from one area to the other.
